The November concert by the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Robert Jindra, will present remarkable works of American and French music. Samuel Barber wrote Toccata Festiva, Op. 36 for the inauguration of the new organ at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia. It will be performed at the Municipal House in Prague by the excellent organist Christian Schmitt.

Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in E Major from the pen of the French Romantic-era opera composer Jules Massenet bears some resemblance to Beethoven's Fifth Piano Concerto in its opening movement - in both the key and musical structure. The third movement, Airs Slovaques, lets the Slovak melody dance in its fullness. The work premièred in Paris in 1903 yet soon fell into oblivion. Piano virtuoso Marek Kozák will rediscover it for you.

The evening in the Smetana Hall will end with Symphony No. 3 in C Minor "Organ" - a composition by the impressionist Camille Saint-Saëns at the peak of his artistic career. It was commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society in London and is dedicated to Franz Liszt. "I gave it everything I could give. What I have achieved here, I will never achieve again." Saint-Saëns on the concerto.

Don't miss these musical delights!

The concert will be broadcast live on Czech Radio Vltava.
