Jiří Sozanský’s AMNESIA project aims to commemorate selected cultural figures through art. In addition to producing unarguably high-quality works of art, tried and tested by time, their works also show the courage with which they faced two destructive totalitarian regimes in the 20th century, Nazism and communism.
Selected figures symbolically represent a large group of those who shared a similar fate: Josef Čapek, Emil Filla, Milada Horáková, Záviš Kalandra, Jan Zahradníček, Jan Zajíc, Jan Palach, Ivan M. Jirous, Jiří Stránský, and Václav Havel.
The AMNESIA project commemorates the thirtieth anniversary of the Velvet Revolution in a unique and remarkable way, and serves as a reminder that bravery is valuable and necessary in any time period. In fact, this very topic has been in the focus on Jiří Sozanský’s art throughout his entire life.
The project was created in cooperation with leading historians and Czech studies scholars. Its exhibition architect was Josef Pleskot, and Marek Jodas served as its graphic designer.
