The Otto Placht exhibition – The Fleeting Eternity of the Jungle is a comprehensive and long-anticipated exhibition from one of the most original personalities on the Czech art scene of the last thirty years.
For the first time, the unique interiors of the Municipal House in Prague will be showcasing a comprehensive selection of large-format works inspired by the artist’s life in the Peruvian part of the Amazon, in direct contact with the unlimited power of nature and the forces of the jungle. Otta Placht’s paintings will captivate visitors with their highly decorative approach, which incorporates an understanding of the mythology and spiritual symbols of the local indigenous culture of the Shipibo Indians. The fascinating presence of the Amazonian spirit particularly resonates in the large works which Placht painted using paints he produced himself from the barks of trees and various plants. The works on display in the Municipal House convey not just aesthetic impressions, but also arouse interest through the symbolism they contain and the question they pose regarding humanity’s ability to embrace its material and spiritual needs in a harmonious relationship with nature.
